MEET MARK

My name is Mark Weatherly. I was born and raised on the eastside of Des Moines. Sherri, my beautiful wife of 37 years and I have had the privilege of raising our family in Pleasant Hill. I have three wonderful grown children and four grandchildren. They all are the joy of my life. To this day, my wife and I still live in Pleasant Hill, attend church on the east side, work on the east side, and enjoy our community of many friends and family on the east side. 

 

In 1980, I entered the workforce as a laborer for a union commercial roofing company (Roofers Local 142). Where I continue to support union labor and through hard work, commitment, and the opportunity that hard work often brings, I became the vice president of the company in 1987 where I managed the company through prosperous as well as trying times. While working full-time and raising my family, I was determined to get a college degree by attending night classes. I graduated with a Management degree from Simpson College and went on to get a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Drake University. I retired from the roofing industry in 2012 to seek a PhD with the goal of teaching college students. I defended my dissertation and graduated in 2016 with a PhD in Higher Education Leadership from Iowa State University. I am currently an adjunct business professor teaching business management and sport management courses at Grand View University.

 

While working on my PhD, a group of faith community leaders approached me about spearheading the project that today is Grandview Christian Schools (GVCS). Under my leadership and with the help of hundreds of dedicated individuals, GVCS emerged in 2014 with 285 students. Today, GVCS is a sustainable organization with two locations on the east side serving approximately 800 students and their families grades pre-K-12th. As a first generation college student, education, both trade school and college, have been an important part of my lived life experience and I always enjoy sharing my love for education in both the private and public sector. 

I have lived the American dream. I know what it is like to work hard, to go the extra mile for family, for work and for community. I am a true “east sider.”  My east side community has helped mold me into the man I am today and I seek to continue serving my community in a new way. 

 

As I look towards the Iowa House, I look to my children and grandchildren and the Iowa I want to leave for them. If the last two years have taught us anything, freedom is beyond precious and we must fight to protect it today and for the future. I am an unapologetic conservative and I am ready to stand for freedom and stand for District 39 in the Iowa House.

WHY
IOWA
HOUSE?

The last few years have highlighted the tumultuous times we live in; a global pandemic, lockdowns, mandates, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, global unrest, market volatility, trillion dollar government bailouts, and soaring inflation. We have witnessed government overreach, a rise in crime, and an emphasis on anti-American priorities. With all the craziness, I have become aware of how important state government is to our freedoms. Iowa has stood strong on various issues when other states have abandoned those traditional American values. As it turns out, it matters greatly for our freedom, what kind of state we live in.

This is the reason I am running for the Iowa House. I am joining the fight to protect and expand our liberties. I will fight for life. I will fight for medical, social, and economic freedoms. I will stand for parental rights because parents matter in the lives and in the education of their children.  I will fight to Keep Iowa Free. 

 

I am doing my part to keep Iowa free by running for the Iowa House of Representatives District 39. District 39 includes east/northeast Des Moines, Pleasant Hill, Brook Run, and Sheraton Park. I earnestly ask for your vote on November 8, 2022. Send me to the Iowa House to fight for freedom for our district and all of Iowa!
